Hanami in the South Park in Sofia
On Saturday, March 31, 2018, the traditional sowing of the Japanese ornamental cherry “Sakura” – one of the most beautiful symbols of Japan, took place in South Park.
The event was organized by the Friends of Japan in Bulgaria Club (Nihon Tomono Kai), the Marinela Association, the Umami Restaurant Team, and the 18th William Gladstone High School.
Special guests were the Ambassador of Japan in Bulgaria, Masato Watanabe, and the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Education of Sofia, Dr. Todor Chobanov.
They welcomed the participants and encouraged the students studying Japanese at the 18th William Gladstone High School to take care of the newly planted trees. The event also included a martial arts demonstration – jujitsu, aikido, and karate, performed by young Japanese.
